Tullyraine Quarries Limited was incorporated in 1954 for the purpose of carrying on the business of Quarrymasters and Civil engineering contractors. The fact the company has remained independent and family owned throughout this period, is due primarily to our Gritstone (Whinstone) Aggregate, which is of the highest quality, and to our considerable experience in the production of other products.

Our Gritstone is used in all types of surfacing from the surface course, the top layer of the road surface, including pre-coated chippings for hot rolled asphalt to road base, the lower most surfacing layer.


Today, the company situated two miles outside Banbridge in Co Down owned and managed by the McCartan family has a turnover of £7 million and employs 50 people.
 
Management
The company is controlled by two family directors Seamus McCartan and James McCartan (snr.) who have delegated the day-to-day management of the company to their sons John McCartan and James McCartan (jnr.). The management team is further assisted by two qualified engineers managing contract operations and a Chartered Co Secretary with responsibility for finance, personnel and administration. QSE Manager responsible for Quality, Health and Safety and Environmental Management and Maintenance Manager responsible for the maintenance of all plant and vehicles within the company.

Products
The company produces high quality aggregates to British Standards which are sold locally and exported to the mainland and to the Republic of Ireland. Tullyraine Quarries currently supply Translink with railway ballast. The company also produces bitmac and asphalt materials for sale locally and for its own surfacing contracts. Surfacing customers include DRD Roads, Louth County Council, Water Service and other major construction firms in N.I. The company is accredited with IS9000 and is a member of Constructionline.

Quality, Health and Safety and Enviromental
The company fully recognises its responsibility in terms of occupational Health & Safety, the protection of the environment and the delivery of high quality goods and services to its clients. In order to manage the quality and health & safety performance of our business, the organisation has implemented an Integrated Management System, (IMS), to meet the requirements of ISO9001: 2000, (including the requirements of National Highway Sector Schemes12D,”Installing, maintaining and removing temporary traffic management on rural and urban roads”,  13A, “Supply & Application of Surface Dressing to Road Surfaces”, 14, “Production of Asphalt Mixes”,, and 16, “Laying of Asphalt Mixes”),  & OHSAS18001: 1999 & ISO14001:2004.  We are also accredited to BS8555 Environmental Management.
